Preface:
I first found out about the Rook MK1 while stumbling across Rolohaun's YouTube channel. He had some seriously amazing content focused on 3D printing, but what most impressed me were the plethora of videos dedicated to his many, many Core XY printers that he had designed himself. Immediately I was hooked and I knew I wanted to build one of his Core XY printers. Naturally, this lead me to the Rook MK1.

Why Build the Rook?
The Rook MK1 is a simple, very beginner friendly small form factor Core XY printer. I had a few reasons for wanting to build the rook. Primarily:
Simple and easy to make with nothing too complex, convoluted, or overengineered.
Easily source-able parts and no proprietary components. You can find basically everything on amazon.
Printable components that make up the frame of the machine: I could easily do this with the printer I have at home.
This machine would be a great introduction to me for Klipper or other more complex firmware used for 3D printers aside from standard Marlin.
Rolohaun's easiest and most beginner friendly Core XY printer.
Build Process:
Originally, I had planned to source my own parts and put everything together myself. However, as I was about to purchase eveything, I found that Rolohaun had started working with Fabreeko to produce consumer kits that would make his Rook MK1 even more accessible. As enticing as it was to source everything and immediately get down to building, I decided to wait and go with the preorder kit since the parts included would be better than what I could find and the total price for the components I was trying to source would already be more expensive than the kit itself.
Special Components in the Rook MK1 Fabreeko Kit:
125 mm Cast Aluminum Mic 6 Bed
I could only find 120 mm mic 6 Beds on Amazon made for the Voron 0.1.
The bed comes with an edge to edge bed heater and thermal fuse.
HoneyBadger motors, MGN9C Linear Rails, and LM8UU Bearings
Sherpa Mini Extruder
HoneyBadger x Rook Ceramic Heater Core Hot End
All of these components together were already enough to warrant me buying the kit instead of self sourcing all the components since they would be higher quality and cheaper in total. Needless to say, I am patiently waiting for the kit to arrive at this point and I will be printing the components once the kit has shipped.
As of now, it is 03/05/23 with the Rook currently in preorder. The kit should start shipping by April 2023.
