Iced Filter Coffee
Iced Filter Coffee: James Hoffman
Prep:
Start by boiling water in a kettle.
Prepare the pour over filter by rinsing it under cold or regular water.
Ingredients:
65 grams of Coffee Beans (65 g/Liter water)
Ice Cubes
Hot water
Instructions:
Start with 5 more grams of coffee than you normally would for grinding. Grind the coffee a little bit finer than you normally would.
Ex: 32.5 grams for 500 mL of water
Brew with 40% of the weight of the brew as ice and 60% as hot water.
Ex: In a 500 mL brew, 200 grams of ice is used and 300 mL of hot water.
Rinse your filter paper with cold or regular water instead of hot water to avoid heating up your decanter and coffee dripper.
Bloom with 2-3 times the weight of coffee as water. Let the coffee bloom for at least 45 seconds.
Ex: 60 g coffee is 120 to 160 grams of hot water.
Stir the bloom. Continue pouring the hot water into the pour over and aim for a brew between 2 to 3 minutes. At the end of the brew, stir once in a circular motion and once in the opposite direction. Let the brew draw down.
Swirl the decanter to get rid of any remaining pieces of ice. Serve the coffee with ice cubes in a glass.
