Important Settings:
Here's what I learned from playing around with my Android Screen.
Zlink Settings: (Apple Carplay and Android Auto)
Important: The bottom right most button leads you to a setting screen where you can toggle the "background connection" option. This is super important as this is the setting that will automatically boot up Zlink once your phone is connected to the Android Screen.
Main Issue: I had a problem where, once my phone was connected to bluetooth (BT app) on the android screen, Zlink would boot up twice.
Fix: I went into the factory settings and found that "BT" needs to be checked in order to use Bluetooth with the screen in general. This setting is to toggle Bluetooth connectivity with the screen.
In the Factory settings, there is also an option to toggle Zlink. I found that once I toggled this on, Zlink would boot up 3 times.
I tried turning off "background connection" in the Zlink app and toggling on the Zlink option in factory settings, but Zlink would not automatically boot up and I had to manually open the app to get music. I think this is a better solution than having Zlink boot up twice.
Lastly, I turned on "background connection" in the Zlink app and unchecked Zlink in factory settings. I then switched to a different UI configuration (ID_EVO 7), which seems to have fixed the issue.
Prior to switching the UI configuration, I had been using AVIN's UI configuration (AVIN_AV8). I'm not sure if there was something in the UI that was making Zlink boot up twice, but switching seems to have resolved this issue.
However, the switched configuration was only done with the car battery turned on and not with the car running. I'm not sure if this plays a role in Zlink booting up twice. I need to do more testing.
It seems like there are multiple options if switching the UI does not work:
Keep "background connection" on in the Zlink app and have the screen boot up twice. This will be the most hands off approach and the easiest.
Keep "background connection" off in the Zlink app and manually click on "music" to boot up Zlink. This is an okay solution, but not ideal.
Keep "background connection" off in the Zlink app. Set it as my auto-start navigation app. I haven't tried this yet.
Download an app that will start apps for me: Tasker or
Currently, I have the Android Screen set to EVO ID7 and this seems to be working great. My Zlink only boots up once and I was able to have the battery and car on without Zlink booting up twice.
Setting Time:
You have to go into the Android Settings, which is not the same as the factory settings or Android Screen Settings.
There is an option to set your time zone, which will dictate the time that will be displayed on the Android Screen. This will also influence the standard time settings on the Android Screen, which is not the same menu as the factory menu.
